The Week Ahead 5/6-5/10

State Testing We will begin state testing next Tuesday 5/7. The first test students will take is the English language arts computer adaptive test. Students will work on the test on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The best way you can help your student prepare is by making sure they get plenty of rest and get a good breakfast on test days. Encourage them to think of the tests as an opportunity to show what they know. Also, if you haven't sent back a letter of encouragement for your student, please send it to school on Monday, 5/6. Math  Our study of geometry will focus on finding unknown angle measures and identifying two dimensional figures. A great way to help your student in math right now is to help them study their vocabulary words. Our vocabulary words this week are geometry terms. The Week Ahead 10/31-11/4

Updates Thank you to everyone who stopped by at conferences. It was great to have the chance to get together and make sure we are all on the same page. I hope you all feel like you have a good idea of what your student can do going forward to ensure they are successful in 4th grade. Please let me know if you ever have any questions. Reading Next week we will continue our study of nonfiction texts. Students are expected to record at least two hours of outside of school reading each week. The reading logs are due on Tuesdays. Because last week was a short week, we didn't assign vocabulary words to be tested next Tuesday. However, students will get their new words that will be tested the following Tuesday, 11/8. The Week Ahead 6/5-6/9

Reading Most of the groups have now finished their historical fiction book. Once they completed their book they had a written assignment to turn in. Groups that finished their first book then selected another book to begin reading. Ask your student which book they are reading now.    Idiom of the week: hold your horses Math Next week we will wrap up our final math module of the year! Students will take their assessment on module 7 on Friday, 6/9. You can help your student prepare by making sure they are completing their daily homework and going over the practice materials they come home with on Thursday evening.  Inquiry We are right in the middle of our inquiry into the structure and function of natural resources. The natural resource that we are focusing on for this inquiry is watersheds. Last week we spent time exploring what watersheds are and why they are important.
