We had a great time getting to know our buddies from Mrs. Perrin's 1st grade class! The buddies made Venn Diagrams to record their similarities and differences.

The Week Ahead 5/6-5/10

State Testing We will begin state testing next Tuesday 5/7. The first test students will take is the English language arts computer adaptive test. Students will work on the test on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The best way you can help your student prepare is by making sure they get plenty of rest and get a good breakfast on test days. Encourage them to think of the tests as an opportunity to show what they know. Also, if you haven't sent back a letter of encouragement for your student, please send it to school on Monday, 5/6. Math  Our study of geometry will focus on finding unknown angle measures and identifying two dimensional figures. A great way to help your student in math right now is to help them study their vocabulary words. Our vocabulary words this week are geometry terms. The Week Ahead 11/13-11/16

Math At the end of next week we will have a mid unit assessment to see how well we are understanding multiplication. We have worked up to two by two digit and four by one digit multiplication. Students learned how to use partial products and the standard algorithm to solve problems. They've also learned how to model the multiplication with place value charts and area models. Idiom of the week : hold your horses Inquiry Next week in our How We Express Ourselves unit we will begin our inquiry into ways innovation expresses creativity. Students will learn some basic computer coding. This will prepare them for our 4th Grade Innovation Fair that will take place at the end of the unit. There will be information coming about the Innovation Fair soon. Writing We have a little bit of a break between our realistic fiction unit and our informational writing unit that will start soon. The Week Ahead 1/21-1/24

There will be no school on Monday, 1/20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. How the World Works Next week we will be filming our natural disaster videos! A huge thanks to the parent volunteers who have signed up to film the students! We wouldn't be able to do this without your help. Most of the groups in our class will be filming on Tuesday, 1/21. Because we are using a green screen, students should not wear green on the day they are filming.  Idiom of the week: fly off the handle Report Cards  Beaverton School District will no longer be sending paper report cards home. The report cards will now be posted on ParentVue. The first semester report card will be available on Monday, 2/3. Continent Club For the forseeable future, Continent Club study materials can be accessed via links in the Monday Minute. Continent Club is a highly recommended, but optional, study at home program.
