The Week Ahead 10/22-10/26

Next week will be a short one for students. Because of conferences their last day of the week will be Wednesday, 10/24.

Conferences
I'm looking forward to meeting for conferences. If you haven't signed up for a time yet, please go to the link here and sign up. If you are unable to sign up online, please call the office at 503-356-2510.

 Reading
Students are expected to read 3 hours outside of school each week and document it on their reading log. Their reading logs are due each Tuesday. Because it is a short week, there will be no new vocabulary words sent home on Tuesday, 10/23. However, reading logs will still be sent home.

Idiom of the week: turn a blind eye

Writing
Students are putting the final touches on their realistic fiction papers. The final drafts will be typed and are due on Tuesday, 10/23. Ask your student how their progress is going.  

Technology Party
The class earned their 10th Wooden Nickel for good behavior. Wooden Nickels can be awarded for good behavior to a class by any teacher in the building. The students decided they want to have a technology party as their reward. The party will take place during the final hour of the day on Wednesday, 10/24. Students may bring one device from home for the party if they want. Students who do not bring a device from home will use one of the school devices.

The Week Ahead 6/4-6/8

Inquiry Things are getting interesting in our Sharing the Planet inquiry with the central idea of natural resources have a structure and function within a community. Last week students collaborated with peers to create a model of a wetland. They used their knowledge of how wetlands function and demonstrated effects that communities can have on the environment. Next week we will begin some preparations for our upcoming field trip on 6/12 to the Cedar Mill Wetlands. Students will learn how to do a transect study to estimate the number of species in an environment and they will learn some ways determine water quality. Field Trip  If your student has not turned in their permission slip for the upcoming field trip please send that back to school ASAP. The Week Ahead 4/22 - 4/26

It was great to meet with everyone at conferences. One of the reasons West TV is such a great place to teach is because of the support strong support at home! Math Students will begin the week comparing decimals and by the end of the week they will add decimals. To monitor how the unit is going for your child, check their Seesaw account. Talk with them about what you notice they are working on in class. Inquiry Next Monday, students will pick their top three choices of migrations they want to research and write a paper on. The following day they will find out which migration they have! Ask your student which migrations they are most interested in. Field Trip Our field trip to the Clean Water Festival at the PCC Sylvania campus will be on Tuesday, 4/30. We will leave West TV at 8:50 and return around 2:15.
