Ceramic Monsters Day 1

Below are pictures from day one of our Ceramic Monsters art project. Today the students built their monsters out of clay. Tomorrow the children will be painting their monsters.

The Week Ahead 11/13-11/16

Math At the end of next week we will have a mid unit assessment to see how well we are understanding multiplication. We have worked up to two by two digit and four by one digit multiplication. Students learned how to use partial products and the standard algorithm to solve problems. They've also learned how to model the multiplication with place value charts and area models. Idiom of the week : hold your horses Inquiry Next week in our How We Express Ourselves unit we will begin our inquiry into ways innovation expresses creativity. Students will learn some basic computer coding. This will prepare them for our 4th Grade Innovation Fair that will take place at the end of the unit. The Week Ahead 10/23-10/27

Reading Last week was not our best reading log completion week. Please check in with your student and make sure they are reading and recording the expected three hours outside of school each week. Another way you can help your student progress as a reader is to have them tell you what their current reading goal is. They should know. Idiom of the week : jump the gun Math Next week students will begin solving multi-step words problems that involve addition and subtraction. They will be expected to show all of their work, create a visual representation of the problem, and use rounding to assess the reasonableness of their answers.  Inquiry On Monday students will begin working on the action that will represent their values, culture , or community. The Week Ahead 9/26-9/30

Math  We will be taking our first math test on Tuesday, 9/27. The test will cover the first 10 lessons. We will spend Monday reviewing for the test. Students will be sent home with a practice test on Monday evening. You can help your student prepare for the test by going over the practice test with them. Reading Each child now has a specific skill they are working on while reading. Check in with your student and ask about their progress on their skill. Students should also be recording their reading on their reading log. They are expected to read at least 2 hours outside of school each week. Vocabulary  Students will be tested on their ten vocabulary words from our read aloud book, The Tiger Rising. The test will be on Tuesday, 9/27. We have been working with the words in class, but your student may need to study them in order to be prepared for their test.  Writing Students have been making good progress in their narrative writing.
