The Week Ahead 10/13-10/17
The Realistic Fiction presentations have been moved to Thursday, October 16, because I will be at a district training during the afternoon of the original due date. Students were sent home with the rubric that will be used to score their presentation. I also sent an email with a digital copy of the rubric. It would be great if your child practiced their presentation multiple times at home prior to the presentation at school. In order to give students time to prepare for their presentations, there will again be no reading log or spelling packet assigned.
Hopefully you have already taken a look at the pictures from the prior blog post of the students writing outside. We have been working on writing personal narratives. Last week one of our focuses was writing good endings to our personal narrative stories. Some of the strategies we learned from mentor texts include leaving the reader something to think about, reflecting on a lesson learned, or summarizing the story. Another aspect of writing we worked on was using figurative language to enhance our writing. So far students have been introduced to onomatopoeia, similes, and metaphors. Next week we will learn what hyperbole is and how it can make our writing a MILLION times better!!!!

On Monday the students will have their first Art Literacy lesson. This is a program that brings volunteers into the class to teach lessons about different artists.
Tuesday will be picture day. We are scheduled to take our pictures at 11:25.
Friday afternoon will be our second meeting with our buddies. At this meeting we will be sharing one of our narrative writing pieces with our buddy. Then, the buddies will do some partner reading.
