Ceramic Monsters Day 2

Today the students painted the monsters that they built yesterday. They are all excited to see how their creations come out of the kiln!

The Week Ahead 4/22 - 4/26

It was great to meet with everyone at conferences. One of the reasons West TV is such a great place to teach is because of the support strong support at home! Math Students will begin the week comparing decimals and by the end of the week they will add decimals. To monitor how the unit is going for your child, check their Seesaw account. Talk with them about what you notice they are working on in class. Inquiry Next Monday, students will pick their top three choices of migrations they want to research and write a paper on. The following day they will find out which migration they have! Ask your student which migrations they are most interested in. Field Trip Our field trip to the Clean Water Festival at the PCC Sylvania campus will be on Tuesday, 4/30. We will leave West TV at 8:50 and return around 2:15. The Week Ahead 4/30-5/4

Math Friday the students took their fraction assessment. Next week we will begin working on decimals. In this unit students will be converting between decimals and fractions, adding and subtracting decimals, and comparing decimals. Reading Students continue to have the expectation to read three hours outside of school each week. Weekly reading logs are due each Tuesday.  Idiom of the week: state of the art   Inquiry The next part of our inquiry unit with the central idea of people use scientific knowledge to respond to a changing Earth, will have students making a video. They will work in a group to share warning signs of their natural disaster, examples from history, and ways to be prepared. The Week Ahead 11/13-11/16

Math At the end of next week we will have a mid unit assessment to see how well we are understanding multiplication. We have worked up to two by two digit and four by one digit multiplication. Students learned how to use partial products and the standard algorithm to solve problems. They've also learned how to model the multiplication with place value charts and area models. Idiom of the week : hold your horses Inquiry Next week in our How We Express Ourselves unit we will begin our inquiry into ways innovation expresses creativity. Students will learn some basic computer coding. This will prepare them for our 4th Grade Innovation Fair that will take place at the end of the unit. There will be information coming about the Innovation Fair soon. Writing We have a little bit of a break between our realistic fiction unit and our informational writing unit that will start soon.
