The Week Ahead 10/20-10/24

The students did a great job on their realistic fiction book presentations! I was impressed with the creativity of the visuals and happy to see that the students did a good job including all of the elements of a story that we have studied. There are still a few students who will give their presentation on Monday. Our next genre study will be biographies. I will have more the details as far as deadlines for book selections and presentation guidelines later this week.

Last week in writing we started revising and editing our personal narrative first drafts. In my experience, this is the most difficult part of writing for students. They have worked hard to get their story to where it is now and they are ready for the payoff of a completed story. This makes it hard to convince them to look closely at everything they have written and make improvements. This week we will continue revising and editing and hopefully begin writing final drafts by the end of the week.

On Monday and Tuesday the students will have an awesome opportunity to create a Halloween related ceramics art project. I will be sure to take plenty of pictures so you get a chance to see their work. This will push our usual math time from 9:20 to 11:00 on those two days.

On Friday of this week, and Monday of the following week, the students get to have two days of special science instruction. Teachers will come to our room and lead to 90 minute science lessons.

This we will continue our usual routine of getting a spelling packet on Monday and turning it in the following Monday. In addition, students will be expected to read four 30 minute sessions and complete four reading log summaries.

Our class Halloween party will be on Friday, October 24th at 2pm. Students may bring their costume to school, but it must be something they can change into themselves, very quickly. No masks, or face painting will be allowed.

Continent Club check is Wednesday 10/22 at 1:49. Make sure to study up!
