The Week Ahead 12/1-12/4

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. It's hard for me to believe that we are wrapping up the first trimester of the school year already!  When students return to school on Tuesday, 12/1, they will get their spelling packet and reading log. The spelling packet and reading log will be due next Monday, 12/7.  Before we left for Thanksgiving Break, we took the Mid Module 3 Assessment. Students will be coming home with their graded assessments on Tuesday. We will be working on Module 3, Lesson 14 on Tuesday. Our focus will now shift to division. Our weekly fact practice will focus on multiplying by 9's.  Last week students began reading their fantasy novels. They will be giving book talks on their novel on Thursday, December 17th. A rubric was sent home with specifics on how the book talks will be scored. Students can use notecards during their book talk.  Over the break I got a chance to score the on-demand narratives we wrote last week. I am very pleased with

The Week Ahead 11/23-11/27

Next week will be a short one. Because of Thanksgiving there will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. On Monday, 11/23, students will turn in their spelling packet and reading log. There will not be a spelling packet or reading log sent as homework over the holiday break. Students will be sent home with an optional reading log. The student who records the most hours read over the break will get a very minor prize.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who made Interview Day possible! After school on Friday, the 4th and 5th grade teachers reviewed the interview notes and student job applications and assigned student jobs. We did our best to place each student in one of their top three choices, but unfortunately, not every child was able to be placed in one of their top three choices. On Monday, 11/23, students will learn their job placement. In preparation for our field trip to Biztown, students will begin meeting with students who are working for the same Biztown business.

The Week Ahead 11/16-11/20

Students will be turning in their spelling packet and reading log on Monday, 11/16. They will also be sent home with their spelling packet and reading log that will be due the following Monday, 11/23.  The big event next week will be Interview Day. On Friday, from 2-3, students will be going to the cafeteria to be interviewed by parent volunteers. Students are encouraged to dress professionally for their interview. These interviews will be a factor in the jobs that students are given for the Biztown simulation. We will attempt to place each student in one of their preferred jobs, but some students may be placed in a job that isn't one of their top 3 choices. I have guaranteed the students that they will have a great time at Biztown, regardless of their job, if they have a positive attitude. Students were sent home with the paperwork for the field trip on Thursday evening. Please complete and send back to school ASAP.  In math students will be multiplying three and four digit nu

The Week Ahead 11/9-11/13

In observance of Veterans Day, there will be no school on Wednesday, 11/11. When students return to school on Monday, 11/9, they will have a reading log and spelling packet due. They will also get their spelling packet and reading log that will be due the following Monday.  New Scholastic book orders went home with students on Friday. The easiest way to order is online at  https://clubs2.scholastic.com/?esp=CORPHP/ib/////NAV/Parents/QLinks/ReadingClub//// . Our class code is DKQ9P. All orders need to be submitted by Tuesday, 11/24. All classroom points that are earned with be used to purchase books for our classroom library.  On Thursday of last week the Beaverton Rotary Club visited our class and gave each student their own personal dictionary! These will be a great tool for the students to use, and it also gave us an opportunity to work on writing thank you letters! Next week in math we will continue Module 3. Students will be multiplying by 10's, 100's, and 1,000&
