Updates There is no school on Monday, 5/30 because of Memorial Day. When students return to school on Tuesday, 5/31 they will have a reading log due.     Inquiry Most students have completed their opinion paper in which they convince others of an appropriate response to a change in the world. When students finish their paper, the next step is to come up with an action plan. A few examples of action plans in progress are making posters to convince students the importance of not wasting food, giving a presentation to educate other classes in the school about the importance of preparing for an earthquake , one student has written letters to our state legislators and has already received feedback from one of them! The action plans are open-ended and can be anything the student comes up with. Check in with your student and ask them about their action plan.   Government Last week students formed committees. Updates Students have reading logs due on Monday, 5/23. Because our field trip is on Monday, we will take our vocabulary test on Tuesday, 5/24. There is no school on Friday, 5/27 because it is a Grading Day. Field Trip The big field trip to visit the Capitol Building is finally here! Each student has turned in their paperwork, so we are ready to go! Please make sure your student gets to school on time on Monday, our bus leaves at 9:15, and we have many things to do before we leave. Students will need to bring a lunch and snack, unless they indicated on their permission slip that they want to order a school lunch. It would be best for students to bring their lunch in a disposable sack instead of a lunchbox. In addition, we will be on our feet for most for he day, so comfortable shoes will be a must. We expect to return to school at 2:30. The only thing students will bring with them is their lunch. Math Last Thursday students were sent home with their geometry test. Please go over

Updates When students return to school on Monday, 5/16 they will have reading logs due. There won't be a vocabulary test that day, but students will get new words for a vocabulary test on Tuesday, 5/24. The test will be on Tuesday that week because our field trip is on Monday, 5/23. Math  Next week we will wrap up our geometry unit. Students will be taking the end of module test on Wednesday. You can help your student prepare for their test by going over the practice test the night before. Later in the week we will begin our final math unit of the year. This unit will focus on exploring measurement and multiplication. Inquiry Our current inquiry unit on responding to change is in full swing. Each student should now have a change that they are studying. Once they conclude their research, they will use their opinion writing skills to propose an action to handle the change. Updates When students return to school on Monday, 5/9 they will have reading logs due. Math Next week in math our geometry focus will shift from measuring angles to classifying 2 dimensional figures and finding lines of symmetry. We will begin the week on Module 4, Lesson 12.  Writing Students turned in an opinion paper in which they selected their favorite book that we have read for read aloud so far this year. The papers have been scored and returned. Check in with your student and have them show you their paper. They can access their paper using Google Classroom.  Science We are in the middle of an inquiry unit with the central idea of, we respond to change in many ways. Each student is looking at a way the planet is changing. Their task is to become an expert on that topic and then create some plan of action to handle the change. At this point students are still in the researching stage. Check in with your student and see what their big topic is and if they have any idea
