The Last Week of School 6/8-6/12

I can't believe we are down to the last week of school! This group of students has been such a treat to work with. They are kind to each other, work hard, and lots of fun. It'll be difficult to say goodbye to such great kids, but I'm glad they won't be far away next year.

Another big part of this being such a great year was the family support this class has received. Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped students with math, reading, art lit, and class parties. Thank you for supporting me by making school work a priority, communicating the needs of your child, and addressing student behaviors at home. It has been wonderful to work with such supportive families!

Speaking of volunteers. Since our routine will change during our last week of school, we won't need any classroom volunteers to come next week. Thanks again to everyone who gave their time this year!

On Thursday each student brought home an informational paper about an upcoming health lesson. The lesson will deal with the changes a child goes through as they get older. The lesson materials can be viewed in the office. All children will participate in the lesson unless their parent communicates with me that they want to opt their child out.

Each child brought home their final division fact fluency test on Friday. In blue ink you will see the number of correct problems they answered in 4 minutes. In black ink you will see the number of problems they correctly answered on this same test during the first week of school. The students should be proud of the great growth they made with their division facts! Below is the proficiency levels for the 4 minute fact fluency test.

90 and above = Highly Proficient

80-89 = Proficient
70-79 = Nearly Proficient
0-69 = Developing

Next week in math students will get to test themselves as designers. They will create floor plans for rooms of a house. In these plans they will decide on the dimensions of the rooms and include furniture. After they have created plans they will have to figure out the amount of square feet that is not covered by furniture.

I'm really looking forward to the science activity we will be working on next week. Students will be dissecting owl pellets. Check in with your student next week and ask them how their dissecting is going.

Our final buddy meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, 6/10. We will be playing kickball!
