The students had a great time at their Valentines' Day party. After passing out valentines, they played Bingo, Apples to Apples, Pit, and Reverse Charades. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped plan our class parties this year!
The field trip to the Cedar Mill Wetlands was lots of fun! I was at the water testing station the whole time, so all of the pictures you see below are from there. I did my best to get pictures of all of the student groups, but unfortunately, I didn't get all of them. Have your student tell you whether their data suggests that we live near a healthy wetlands.
We had a nice first week back from winter break. I enjoyed hearing about all of the fun activities students did over the break. We will now be returning to our routine of turning in a spelling packet and reading log each Monday. The reading logs can be completed online. Students will take a test on the words from their spelling packet on Monday as well. In math we have started our study of division. Students will be solving problems using the standard algorithm (long division) and place value charts. They will also be checking their answers by multiplying. By the end of the week they will be solving story problems using division. Our weekly fact practice will now focus on dividing by a different number each week. Next week we will work on improving our speed and accuracy in dividing by 2's. Students are expected to complete the math lesson each day. If they don't finish it in class, they need to take it home and return it the next day. Friday is the one exception. Each Friday...
How the World Works We are nearing the end of our How the World Works inquiry with the central idea that people use scientific knowledge to respond to a changing Earth. Students have been working hard researching their natural disasters and writing an informational paper about them. Next week they'll begin our culminating project for this unit, which will involve the students filming videos using a green screen. The filming of these videos will take place on 1/21, 1/22, and 1/23. We’re asking for parent volunteers to sign up for sections of time to film a small group of students using an iPad. We will set up the green screen and the students will be well rehearsed and ready to go. If you are interested in filming please go to the link below and sign up for a time. We are asking for two volunteers for each filming session. Feeling a little unsure about using the technology? No worries, we’ll give a quick 10-15 minute tutorial on how to use the iPad to film with a green screen ...
