Today the students learned about Emily Carr and her work inspired by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. They created their own piece of art inspired by Emily Carr.
The field trip to the Cedar Mill Wetlands was lots of fun! I was at the water testing station the whole time, so all of the pictures you see below are from there. I did my best to get pictures of all of the student groups, but unfortunately, I didn't get all of them. Have your student tell you whether their data suggests that we live near a healthy wetlands.
State Testing We will begin state testing next Tuesday 5/7. The first test students will take is the English language arts computer adaptive test. Students will work on the test on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The best way you can help your student prepare is by making sure they get plenty of rest and get a good breakfast on test days. Encourage them to think of the tests as an opportunity to show what they know. Also, if you haven't sent back a letter of encouragement for your student, please send it to school on Monday, 5/6. Math Our study of geometry will focus on finding unknown angle measures and identifying two dimensional figures. A great way to help your student in math right now is to help them study their vocabulary words. Our vocabulary words this week are geometry terms. There will be no school on Monday, 1/20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. How the World Works Next week we will be filming our natural disaster videos! A huge thanks to the parent volunteers who have signed up to film the students! We wouldn't be able to do this without your help. Most of the groups in our class will be filming on Tuesday, 1/21. Because we are using a green screen, students should not wear green on the day they are filming. Idiom of the week: fly off the handle Report Cards Beaverton School District will no longer be sending paper report cards home. The report cards will now be posted on ParentVue.
